Birthdays - doing things differently

Tomorrow is a big day. My biggest boy's birthday. Tomorrow J hits the big 10, he's into double figures! (I'm not quite sure how I can possibly be old enough to have a 10 year old son but there we go!).

And we're going to use the lessons we learnt at Christmas to do it a bit differently this year. This time last year he was still waiting for a diagnosis. And we also had snow which disrupted his birthday plans at the last minute and made it difficult for him.

This year we are making sure there are no surprises. J and Daddy went shopping last weekend and he has chosen exactly what he wants (lots of Lego, a new teddy bear and a Tiger onsie!). We have bought and shown him his cards and wrapping paper, and tonight (when the littlest 2 monkeys have gone to bed) he is going to help wrap his presents up. Him and Daddy are off out this afternoon so that he can choose his cake. We've also bought balloons (which he wanted) and he is going to help blow those up before he goes to bed too. He's also chosen exactly what he wants to eat for both lunch and tea tomorrow.

So hopefully by cutting out all of the surprises, and making sure J knows exactly what will be happening he will have a happy and stress free birthday.

I shall take lots of photos and report back!

  1. Aw, happy birthday to him. 10 is a big milestone, he's a big boy now!
(PS. I'm not really sure how my eldest got to be 19 already, I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing that he actually only acts like a 10 year old half the time!)
